Do we not have Constitutional rights,
those for which this nation's forefathers fought:
right to safety and quiet enjoyment
of our homes, whether we rented or bought;
right to freedom of speech and so much more?
Think again, our rights are no longer sought—
according to man's convoluted laws.
Think again: rights just for those in vile sin—
Rights in fading ink on frayed onionskin:
good evil, evil good in Satan's den.
Imagine my shock when the lawyer said,
"It must state that in the rental contract,
despite HUD declaring such tenant rights."
Loopholes and corrupt agencies backtrack:
lies for truth take our civil liberties—
we must bear criminals' tormenting tacts
or risk eviction for their wicked games.
Think again: rights just for those in vile sin—
Rights in fading ink on frayed onionskin:
"good evil, evil good" in Satan's den.
Author notes
This poem is the result of a conversation with my attorney this morning: regarding the tenant above me who has violated all the house rules, HUD contract rules, DSHS contract rules, filed false complaints against me and my ferrets, assaulted me in front of 5 witnesses, tapped my phone (proven by phone company), and torments 24/7 so I cannot get any sleep; yet, management will do nothing, despite numerous complaints by others, except threaten me with eviction when I finally complained that I could not take any more of the tenant woman's drunken behaviour and that of her grown sons who are not supposed to be living here.
The conversation and that tenant's continued wicked behaviour coupled with management's lack of action speaks loudly of these end days, wherein God warned, "They will call evil good and good evil."

HOODWINKED!
Wow, I hope this situation sorts itself out for you soon. Your poem brought out all the uncertainties and problems that come from these hard times.

Hood-Wink!
I liked the intense emotion, disappointment and frustration that comes from your writing. I hope the situation works out for you.

Hood-Wink!
Ohmy
I am so sorry you are going through this with a horrid neighbour, I can't believe they tapped your phone! I'd have called the police for sure.
I thought my old neighbour below me in my old apartment block was bad for being a constant drunk and banging on my door at all hours trying to get us to have a drink with her -
Powerfully penned mate
I'm not American but I felt the pride through the ink

Stay safe

You've been hood-winked!!!
Wow. I am so sorry about this. I hope everything gets resolved. I can't understand why anyone would complain about your ferrets! Ferrets are sweethearts!!! These people sound insane. Again, I hope it gets resolved.
Good poem. So true, though depressing! The world vexes me. Nice to read some more rhymes here at AP by the way.
Enjoy your hood-wink!!!

This swells the eyes for I remember crossing paths with a Manager who displayed behavior that was inappropriate and violated tenants rights~ She was later removed and sadly the Management office burnt down but what You endured...Holy Moly~ how can anyone in upper Management just watch this and say nothing~
It sickens me to even envision~ I am sorry You had to go through that
I'm Happy You continue to stand Your ground...and NOT let them steal Your liberties
You WILL Persevere!! Love You SisBon!!
Thank You for sharing Your Voice

An unemotional
write, depicting emotional battering! Look toward the promises, the dreams you have- easier said than done, but hang on to the promise. Please read: http://allpoetry.com/poem/5342391 together with my comment. Blessings to you, and remember that you are always in my heart. Frans

Great images, emotion and impact! I am sorry you are having those kinds of problems - some people are so rude and uncaring of others, and just feel they can break all the rules they want to and get away with it - not right at all!
I sure hope/pray that things get better for you!
Nicely done!
thank you for your entry
best wishes in the contest

Sometimes I think this world has stolen away the rights of many and many suffer from the acts of others that do not know what the heck they are doing what is the point of saying protect and serve nothing more then words that say in my time when I am ready things will change well best to you in our contest be well

If we could all just have our own
little space, to live our quiet lives...what a beautiful world this would be! Unfortunately, too many people believe they have rights above others...I hope your situation gets better...I will keep you in my heart and prayers! No one should have to live like this (I did for about four years....finally moved!)
Thanks so much for your entry!!! Best wishes in the contest...and with the situation!

Exactly what I felt you are looking like the evil one while they are looking like the good ones, protected by state help is what it is, or they have fear of what these people could do to them, or they just simply didn't look like that, as much as you would not want to feel defeat, yes God would want us to stand but just maybe you are deserving of something better, well pointed out piece and excellent write. Blessings.

Thank you for the encouragement, darling daughter. A call a few days ago, from God I'm sure, indicates I might be moving in a few months to Oregon: a private apartment attached to a huge home in the forests of the foothills . . . when it is completed! Carol and Wayne are friends of my daughter and son-in-law and Wayne was one of Maria's caregiving clients: awesome Christian people, for Carol said the apartment is for 'Mom.'
Tons of love & hugs, MomB

I am so sorry this nightmare continues for you Sis. Truly the world is so convoluted there is no Truth to be found. Be strong Sweet Sis. You are in my prayers. Can you possible move? I do so wish you could return to your last home.

I received a call the other day, sweet Sis; in my mind, a call from God confirming His work on my behalf. I could be moving in a few months TO A PLACE MUCH LIKE BETTY'S! Tons of acreage in the foothills of the mountains in Oregon: friends and former client of Maria's. An entire new apartment is being built on one end of Carol and Wayne's huge home and Carol said it is for me! And, another call from some apartments in Vancouver: I'm #1 on their list. My hope is for Carol's place.
Much love & hugs, SisBon
