Overcoming

I’m scared. I’m scared of what
I might have to face. I’m scared
of the tumors that stretch their shaky hands
across my ribs, threatening to tear my heart in two.
I’m scared of what I might miss
in the times I might loose. I’m scared of loss.
I’m scared of missing my own future.

But I’m grateful. I’m grateful for
the opportunities I’ve been given, the
challenges I’ve had to face,
the person they’ve made me become.

I’m grateful for the decisions that have led me here,
and for the loyal friends that supported me along the way.

Everything happens for a reason.
And though I fear the days to come,
and the many obstacles they might bring, I look forward knowing
that no matter what, I will be ok.

A great man once said “Adversity is like a strong wind.
It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn,
so that we see ourselves as we really are.”

In the midst of anguish I discovered myself...
The strength I found then will carry me now,
forever,
and always.

"In the midst of anguish I discovered myself."

all we really have to fear is fear. and you have defeated your fear and have found yourself.
