When I first met you the ice creams were melting
Sticky sweet running all over my hand
And on my lips before it fell splat
On the pavement like a birds egg
Revealing little foetus with beak unhappy
The streets were so packed
We moved like elephants through ants
At night I would wake up and sip of water
And think for a moment that it tasted sweet.
Sticky sweet running all over my hand
And on my lips before it fell splat
On the pavement like a birds egg
Revealing little foetus with beak unhappy
The streets were so packed
We moved like elephants through ants
At night I would wake up and sip of water
And think for a moment that it tasted sweet.
Author notes
I hope that this ticks all the boxes of symbolism in that it goes about lulling the reader into evoking an intended response.
Also I wrote this on the spot but can't help but wonder if the appearance of Ice Cream here is a subconscious acknowledgement of Wallace Stevens' "The Emperor of Ice Cream" which is the poem that comes to mind for me when I think of Symbolism.

Wow! Within four lines of your poem, I thought to myself, "Now, that's true symbolist poetry!" It was strikingly aloof and had me reading it again and again. The imagery is unique and, while serving a central purpose, each symbol held a distinct entity of its own. There is nothing really constructive that I can say about this poem at the poem. Right now, I feel as if you could publish it as it. The incoherent coherency is captured beautifully in your poem. Wonderful job. Please never stop writing!
I regret to say I have never read "The Emperor of Ice Cream", but I certainly will soon! Thank you for entering
