Tether To Me

Tether to me, Dearest One,
All contents of your pre-dawned soul
Fair and feath’ry, hopeful stance--
Introspective
Wistful, backward
Glance—Now...

Pack up your armored humanity,
Scar wounds, expired wombs,
Dirty minds and dishes,
Paper maps aligned with wishes
Circum-invented 'round far-flung stars

Within this rugged, toothy range
Mountains peek at our
Boldly measured disarrange-
Meant--Are you with me?  Check. Do you know?
Headlamps, ropes, confounded hopes,
premature commiserations--
First Aid Kits for lacerations--
Energy
Bar(ing) every flavor
Blissful, throaty, cry-choked singing
Clinging to a "crazy" plan
Of painstaking ascension
Up
Into the deepest stratosphere of God.

Spiked shoes, please begin your bidding
Among safe rocks, the ones still bearing
Moss, bottom-snugged in vertical earth,
Ropes, hold loose our mortal worth,
Each tip of toe,
Cracked ice unfolds
Flash freezing hair,
Spine-numbing cold
For all hearts unworthy of this climb--

But what becomes of You and I?

We’ll stick to the plan
Find truest-blue
Carved anew from the summit
Of God's right hand,
Pray up the mountainous steps
of rocky-blinged fingertips
What could be in it for all the rest,
Man’s blessed best,
Who lounge below,
Their hammocks moving.  Way. Too. Slow.
And I can no longer see them from the height
Of a weather vein in day’s first light.
(Do you hear the Rooster calling?)

Gently, tap the ice
Pick
Your timing
Stay sure-footed.
Hold tight (to me)
Until, at last, with worries finally,
Fallen far below, throw your pack,
Release steeled carbuncles, and
Through the steam
Of God's womb seams...

Unhinge
Your startled, fledging,
Placenta'd wings

I'm flying right behind you.
