A Haiku for Nietzsche

The hatred virus

Contagious and so deadly

Spreads from heart to mind

Author notes

"One ought to hold on to one's heart; for if one lets it go, one soon loses control of the head too.”

A powerful thought summed up in this observation. I am no Nietzsche expert, but I wonder if the direction of heart to mind is what the quote suggests. It seems to say that if we fail to maintain a connection with our heart then the overbearing mind will corrode and corrupt our minds, therefore damaging our hearts in the process. Just a thought. Either way, your piece stands on its own!

    • That is a good thought. My interpretation was that if you don't listen to the good in your heart, then eventually you're mind will be filled with nothing but bad things (hatred, dishonesty, ect). Not necessarily heart to mind, but that once your heart has turned negative then so has your mind and thoughts. I don't know. I'm just speaking from a personal perspective. But thanks for giving me another way of looking at it and thanks for the comment.

  • very well done and i wish you well in this contest that you have entered. thank you for sharing this with me today. viyanna rosemarie

Short, sweet, and to the point. Should be read in the voice of the Old kung Fu Master, grasshopper. Without rational thought we are truly just a pack of snarling dogs,

  • Interesting haiku on a man I admire. Good quote as well, universal truth.
