My Infra-Red kitty

Missing image

My Infra-Red Kitty

Once I had a kitty cat

his name was 'Infra-Red'

and all over the kitchen floor,

mud from outside he'd tread.

I also had a goldfish who

was happy in his bowl

till Infra-Red cat scooped him out

and swallowed him down whole.

I had a budgie bird as well

who lived inside his cage

but Infra-Red broke down his door

and made my budgie rage

He really was a naughty cat

I had to tell him off.

He never changed one little bit;

at Mum and dad he’d scoff

One day he spotted George’s rat

and chased him through the house.

It ran as fast as it could go

and jumped inside Mums blouse.

She screamed “Help! Get it out of here!”

Dad’s hand reached in and took

the rat and threw it out the door.

Poor Mum’s whole body shook.

But Infra-Red he got so mad,

he tried to scratch and bite.

I told him that he must behave

or stay outside all night.

He has to learn one thing from me,

that he is not the boss

or: “Mum will take you to the vet

and make you really cross!

“You’d better change that look and put

a sweet smile on your face

or, when the vet has done with you

and taken out your dinky-do,

no she-cats will you chase!.”

That is a cat for you!

There were a few bits where it could have been made to read better, but the story was so good, I thought 'Crit, crit, crit, be blowed!'

When my children were young, we had a black cat (imaginatively called 'Inky'), which had a habit of seizing raciing-pigeons from a loft in a neighbouring house. Periodically, there would be a knock on the door, the children would shout 'Dad! It's the Bird-man' I would be duly contritr, on Inky's behalf, but what could I do? Have a quiet word with Inky - who on one occasion got in someone's window, and dragged a whole chicken out? That is cats - you either have them ,or don't

Thanks Susan, Yes Infra-Red is behaving himself at the moment. If he doesn't he's in big trouble.

I love this, Joan... your Infra-Red is quite a pistol. My cat, Boss was an ornery Manx... especially to kids . The picture reminds me of him.
I'm glad you chose the picture to write from. The expression pn that child's face and the expression on the cat's face are what made me choose this picture for the contest... I just couldn't resist.

    Good luck in the contest

    Dee

Dear Dee, they can be quite a handful at times. I loved the picture, their expressions are great!

  • What a cat! I loved the entire story, especially the fifth and sixth stanzas. What hoot! I am not a fan of cats. I prefer dogs. Cats have more attitude than I do. LOL The rhyme, meter, and cadence of this poem was excellent! I read it aloud as I do most poetry and it felt wonderful rolling off my tongue. I wish you well in the contest dear Sis'.

    Always ♥

    LOLz

I didn't catch the end at first... I especially loved the "behave or stay outside all night" and other fun rhymes and KODAK moments of the kitty cat kind. GREAT pic too and the one of you looks like one of your best yet. Well done. I had an image of a gold trophy on your virtual Mantel on your author page.

Thanks my little Sissy Pixie, cats can be a lot of fun to watch and they can get into a lot of mischief.

This poem has great momentum, Joan, which is due to your fine ballad meter and rhymes. Tom cats can be troublesome, but they calm down after a snip. The guys often take it too personally.

    Dear Bea,

I well recall your little kitty and thought it such an awful pity
you had him taken to the vet so now he'll nevermore beget
or fight for, follow, feel or fret for female puss or titty.

For three days he was pretty sore because he was a Tom no more.
I'm sure that I'd go really crackers if some damn vet cut out MY knackers
then billed me for two hundred smackers. I'd want to know what for!

My 'Fluffy' thought he was a honey but now she stares at him quite funny
I'm sure she thinks he must be gay because he never looks her way
and, when she tries to make him play, he won't accept her money.

I'm sorry for your kitty-poo and think that it was cruel of you,
just 'coz he played a trick or two, to make him lose his dinky-do.

But I enjoyed your poem, even if I don't like what you got the vet to do to Infra-Red.

Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

And cats who use their teeth or claws
do not deserve the King's applause!

Well Hugh, he only got threatened if he didn't behave he'd go to the Vets, he was a wise cat and behaved himself, maybe Fluffy didn't turn him on but the little hussy in the corner house is a real doozy Infra-Red is always disappearing down there.

  • What a cute story...poor kitty kat...He better behave or no more tom-ming around for him...

    Good entry

    last stanza!!!!!!!!!

    Great description, Sweetest Angel!
