A Gamble

I am numb
Memories wander listlessly through consciousness
Irrelevant now they are taking up room.

If only I hadn’t placed my bet with you
My affect would not be flat and I could laugh.

So cruel these lies made by naïve fickle hearts
Innocently spoken with good intent.

Haunted by memories of past rejection
I gladly drank in your affection with greed

Now poisoned
And filled with a hate for the words you uttered
I vow never to gamble on love again.

    Emotional and powerful. Simply beautiful.

But don't give up hope just yet, you never know what hand life will deal you.
So don't vow never to gamble on love again.

i really love this poem, though obviously not the tone because it is so disparing and disheartened and not nice to think of you feeling that.

I don't like to line quote but

'So cruel these lies made by naïve fickle hearts
    Innocently spoken with good intent.'

sounds like something from a shakespeare play. I love it

oo, the last line really hits you. that's my favourite part. that and 'haunted by memories of past rejection, i gladly drank in your affection with greed'... sounds like the thirst for affection means you are eager to take what you can....

but try not to think about the r.ship too much in that way .. :S

and one day you will feel ready to gamble again

    love you xx
