Changing Keys

He lived his life in minor key,
an outcast-
where shadows of day played on ebony moon of night,
touching the down trodden
with sorrowful song.

The weary wept  harder
and the despised descended to depths of anguish.
He allowed no one to go untouched,
and moved fingers along the black in order to attain it-
for all to feel his pain.

Nature wailed, shrouding happiness
within its thunderous applause.

But crescendos softened upon lips of mercy
when she sang light, and measured his worth
with but a single beat of her heart,
a dove's coo within the storm.

He slipped on her pure tears
and fell upon ivory thoughts of hope,
spinning in time with her coming-

combining black and white
to compose future's colorful harmonization.

I'm sorry that I am just now reading this one, I love the minor chords and admit that I probably dwell too much along the black also. What a beautiful way of bringing a life to light by finding the perfect words "a dove's coo within the storm" finding colorful harmony in black and white. Very nice!

  • This is another wonderful example of symbolism, you have woven the emotional elements perfectly allowing glimpses to tell the story and capture this reader. a wonderful tribute to this piano man.

  • You weave a beautiful tale in this verse that takes this prompt to such a beautiful place.
I love where you went here, and your poem speaks to me on a personal level that is uncanny. Thank you.

I think you might have a stronger ending by simply leaving off the last three lines.
you've already said it all beautifully in the two lines above.

Oh my goodness, this is good. Thank you for such a beautiful entry. Very very well done.
