The Beating of Your Drum

Can you take my out stretched hand
And forgive my partaking
In nefarious actions
And devious way of thinking?

And I did it all in hopes of retaliation . . .

And all this time I have to wonder,
Did I do it for him?
To get attention in his eyes?

Did I even care, if it was positive or negative?

Why I never stopped to wonder, I don’t know,
The many things I don’t know.

The many things I didn’t say.

The many lies I’ve uttered

The many nights I’ve lied in bed
Regretting the actions I’ve taken
In order to survive

I’ve got to let it go
And let it walk away

No matter how much I want to run out and hold it to me.

I know that tomorrow will bring a new day
And that life goes on
That all of us will end up okay
Walking to the beat of a new drum

But – Ah – the old one.
I’ll never forget the tapping you created on my heart.

Author notes

Okay, so I really liked somebody who really wasn't right for me. Our lifestyles were too different. We ended parting ways, but I'll always remember how this person made me feel and how he changed apart of me for the better.

I would totally love constructive criticism.

What did you think??

It's very hard to like someone who doesn't like you back, or isn't right for you. Heck it's hard enough liking someone who is right for you. LIfe is hard but we learn to surpass that and become stronger. You've done a great job. Thanks for sharing. Welcome to site.
