It was just as well
Sister Agnes never saw
The schoolgirls kissing
In the dim lit corridor
A few feet away,
It may well have brought
On an asthma spasm
Or worst still
A heart attack
And taken her
To her kingdom come
Before her good God intended,
But she was focussed
On unknotting
Her rosary beads
And the two girls
Having parted from the kiss
Took tiptoe steps away
Before the good sister
Lifted her head
And caught the second kiss
Beneath the crucifix
On the wall
By the chapel door,
But the beads
Had taken time to undo
And all Sister Agnes knew
Of the episode
Was the sound of far off footsteps
Just out of out of view.
