Stars

Oh, colder than the mountains and the seas,
the stars that serenade the dusky skies,
a melancholy song that fades and dies,
a waif that haunts the sleepless, scented breeze.
Oh, how they shine and how they sink and swoon,
each restful star another dying sun,
or story that is yet to be begun,
oh, hollow skies beneath a cloudless moon.
They rest upon the pillow of the night
and brighten as the darkness rushes in,
above the moon, a crescent pale and thin,
those silver lamps that lend sweet heaven light.
A thirsty sky that gives before it takes,
the drowsy night that breathlessly awakes.

How beautiful, there is nothing I love more than nature writes of this kind. You left me wanting to bask in the moon's glow after this. And as far as sonnets go, one of the most beautiful I have read. Congratulations on your spotlight too

Wow, first of all, I've gotta say that I admire you just for being able to write sonnets! I've been trying to do this, but I never managed.
And this is not just perfect regarding the form (rhyme and rhythm) but also the contents... Your poem paints a beautiful and lively picture of the night, everything seems to fit together so perfectly in this write. And I love the recurring "s" alliterations.
    Beautiful... just beautiful.

I'm so glad I got to read this poem!
    Keep on writing!

A wonderful sonnet, full of excellent imagery! It really sings for me, with a brilliant couplet. I love your word-choice. ( I'm not sure about the repetition of "oh" in your sonnet, but thats my thoughts on it)

Beth a lovely sonnet. Images play host to senses that carry the reader on the breeze, through the sun setting to greet the moon as the pillow of night. Great ending - crescent pale and thin, those silver lamps that lend sweet heaven light. My applause for this

  • Star Serenade

Star serenade take cue and key from fair
whose light transpierces Earth's fog atmosphere,
elsewhere grim darkness rushes in to scare
the twinkle from our eyes, send dread despair.
