The Kingdom of Bone (Blank Verse)

The Kingdom of Bone

The bleached bones of heroes heaped as bricks
are placed as squares forgotten, make walls.
The current, time shall sway mem'ries decayed
Embalm'd, the bitterness arises, dead
do lift 'old steel' to battles long play'd out.

The fragment'd skulls of king do laugh their pain
as crushed dust shall grace the feet of dead.
As feet slide to the cadenced strut of dormant
minds marching to military madness,
the drummers pound the human skintight drums.

Forgotten men relive the doom of war
as cannons pound holes in cancered corpses
Relentless march breaks the blasted bleached bones
of those who passed before, hellish nightmare.
Image after image of flowing red
bathes faces raw and eyes become blinded.

The ashes, human gods, fill tombs of lies
as rotting carrion feed dull witted flies.
Alone a raven pecks at blankest eyes
of one who fail'd to win the  battle day.

What cuts down kings and tyrants made legend?
What equals all by fated choice of time?
What rides of blackest horse and sweeps the field?
What timeless, faceless cares not daunting cry?
An angel, death, laughs with skinless lips.

This was rather interesting. It reminded me of the catacones they have over in Rome and Paris is it? right at the first two stanzas flowing into the story behind them starting in the third flowing to the end.

Alone a raven pecks at blankest eyes
of one who fail'd to win the battle day.

    Full of visuals here!!! **

    Awesome look into history
