Pride and Prejudice

I have dreams of marriage, of kids and love,
Of days of simplicity and God above,
Of candlesticks and home grown food,
And farms and dresses and a merry mood.

I have dreams to live like Elizabeth Bennet,
Of sewing clothes and wearing a corset,
Of finding someone matching Mr. Darcy's love,
One that is as pure as two white doves.

I have enough sisters for the Bennet clan
But wish my parents stayed together as planned
Things are paid with cash from a vault.
Would you consider pride a virtue or fault?

I dream of a life of music and books,
Of days I take a whole day to cook.
Where girls only worried of having to wed,
And raising healthy babies and to put them to bed.

Divorces were unheard of, and families were big,
There were balls with dancing and wine to swig.
No cars or electricity that only pollute,
Girls could learn to play piano or flute.

Pride and Prejudice would be a life for me,
If any book I could choose to be.

I like this poem alot. It shows your faith in something beautiful, no matter fiction or fact. All you really ever have to do is believe in what you want to happen, and even if it doesn't work, the pursuit of it can be beautiful in and of itself. Don't ever lose your faith in the sublime... Out there, somewhere in this vast world, your Mr. Darcy awaits his Elizabeth.

  • This was nice to read , I enjoyed it a lot. Well done poet.

I always thought marriage would be so grand.
The lady whom I loved took my name and hand.
A few years pass and she went through a change.
Her life no longer included me in a loving way.
She said, "I love you, but no longer in love with you."
I thought she would be the one forever and true.
Maybe she's the reason why I'm afraid of real marriage today.
For I never want to break anyone's heart in any way.
In several days will be our divorce anniversary once again.
Just another reminder why marriage scares me to no end.

I guess you can tell by now that I take marriage seriously myself. My ex-wife has scared me about getting married again even though I absolutely love to be married to the right person. I just don't know if I will ever be the right person for someone else. Even though I made a short poem to yours, it's a long story that has made me this way. I guess it's why I always want couples to make it so bad and love them being in love. I hade it before and know the feeling and can only hope others can too. I may know it again, but at least even through the painful divorce, still know what true love use to be. I do hope you will find the perfect marriage and wish you well in the contest as well.

    • I can see how your thoughts of marriage can only be serious and heart-wrenching. I have been waiting to find the right one to marry. I was engaged once, and when that didn't work out, it got harder to believe I would find that person.
