There is one in my life, close like a mom
Others wouldn’t consider themselves lucky
To me, I do, for you have brought gifts into my life
Having you here as another to love,
Even as I share that love with another I call mom
Only that love is different, but in some ways the same
Never have you made me feel that I am out of place
Even though I am not your ‘real son’
I thank you for taking me in when you took your vows
Calling my father husband and receiving an already built family,
A challenge many could not have handled, but you did
Love was the gift that allowed you to do that so well
Love was the glue that held you together through the years
So, as Mother’s Day approaches this year,
Take theses words and hold them close to your heart,
Embracing them as they are meant to be held
Placing them in the room you hold for me
Make it known that I wish you a Happy Mother’s Day
Only, I wish it to last throughout the entire year,
Making each day special as you deserve it to be

A fitting and beautiful tribute to the Step-Mom. Your word should fill her with pride and joy!
Very nicely done.

The tone is right. The gentleness in it splendid. The thankfulness feels genuine and heart felt that when I ran into the word son I had to stop and see all over again the slant on the poem. I think if he gives it to her the tears will be full of joy.
Love,
Tom B.
