Dirty Hands

This dirt upon my hands will never wash away,
so here it must remain for my lifetime and a day.

There by sins and delight in their commission
For many long years without a remission

And far worse still, there by a failure to act
when true evil stood before me in actual fact

Many who look on me with haughty disdain
pass by with faces screwed up as if in pain.

But I have something I’d ask them to do,
stand alone in a room, just a mirror and you.

Take a long searching look into your blameless eyes
all by yourself, no evasions, without your disguise.

And when you’ve finished, if the truth be told
look at your own hands and the dirt they hold

What did you think

  • very good...the only thing I might look at is the flow in the beginning. I feel its off a little. Other than that very good!

  • Another great poem, I think the last stanza really captured the poem well and was a really good way to end the poem. Well done

    Hi gray2020 beard,
I very much like your message in 'Dirty Hands'- an alternative to "let him who is without sin cast the first stone." The poem did stir alot of sadness within me because there was no reference to self-forgiveness. I like poetry that is emotionally stirring for me and yours fits that. Well done!

    Wonderful Poem My Friend.

Hello, I love the rhyme in your poem and the flow.
A great message to be heard too. We should always look within ourselves before we cast the first stone at anyone. A pleasure to read this evening.

Hugs and Smiles across the miles.

    Always, Sandy
