Forever Thankful

He was never given the chance,
to really prove himself.
He was abused and attacked,
beyond a point of help.

It took me all day,
to get him on my float.
After what I’d witnessed,
I WAS taking him home.

He shied away from humans;
Instinctively he’d run.
I tried my best to save him;
to undo what they’d done.

I never tried to break him,
I let him warm to me.
I never forced myself upon him;
I’d forever wait patiently.

We progressed in baby steps,
building up his trust.
Now he follows me everywhere,
something I just love.

I’ve realized just lately,
that I saved his life.
I gave him a fighting chance.
to put the past behind.

We ride all the time.
He has a knack for jumping.
He’s incredibly intelligent,
and very, very loving.

He is just so beautiful.
He has come a long way.
I will be forever thankful,
that I saved him that day.

    What a touching story. I am overjoyed you chose to save him. Also, I applaud the method you chose in forming a bond. Actually, your poem reminds me of White Fang. If you have not read it, I recommend it. A dog gets a variety of owners and some are significantly better than others. But getting back on topic, thank you very much for your entry.
