Eternal Memories

I remember a day
When I was the quiet kid
Sitting at the back of the crowd--
Forgotten.

I remember a day
When some junior I'd never met
Proceeded to have conversation with me--
Included.

I remember a day
When I received a role
Where I could stand on a stage--
Discovered.

I remember a day
When the first cast I was in
Turned from strangers into friends--
Accepted.

I remember a day
When the upperclassmen
Decided to help teach the trade--
Encouraged.

I remember a day
When I painted my face orange
And danced crazily on a stage--
Freedom.

I remember a day
When the group demanded
Another rendition for all our hard work--
Coveted.

I remember a day
When we found a problem
That together we overcame with ease--
United.

I remember a day
When people didn't like
Others walking home in the dark--
Generosity.

I remember a day
When the group produced
A brand new show that was written for us--
Privileged.

I remember a day
When I realized how far
I have come with the help of these friends--
Changed.

I remember a day
When the Drama Club
Went from friends to family for me--
Loved.

I remember a day
When those same juniors
Turned to senior and had to move on--
Eternal Memories.

Author notes

Collaboration by LindsayBear. Without her, this would never have been polished and sounding so good as it sounded last night when Mrs. Estrada read it at the Drama Awards Banquet. Hearing it read aloud almost brought tears to my eyes, just like it brought tears to the eyes of those juniors from last year that included me.

We will miss them. All of them. May their lives be filled with greatness.
