Today we arrived.
I don't like our new neighbors,
They scream all day long.
Some of the others in our building are sad,
But I am looking forward to fun!
Mama says that I have to play a game,
I'm excited because I love to play.
I must be quiet to win, and avoid our yelling neighbors.
Our new home is made of wood,
It gets a bit drafty at night;
And there are holes in the ceiling,
But mama says that they'll be patched soon.
I haven't seen daddy in a while.
Mama says that it's because of his new job,
in the factory where the chimney is blowing!
She says we'll see him soon.
Our backyard is so new it doesn't even have grass.
That's ok, I won't complain,
I love to play in the mud and get dirty.
Our new fence is temporary
It's made of all sorts of scrap metal,
And it hurts to touch. It cut me.
I used the blood for face paint!
Which reminds me of summer camp.
This new neighborhood is just like camp!
But it's a bit cooler than summer.
Our yelling neighbors say we have to shower tomorrow.
All the kids. That stinks, I hate showering.
It's snowing right now,
But it doesn't feel cold enough to snow.
Well it must be cold because,
That chimney is always smoking. Day and Night.
But it's burning harder than ever tonight.
It must be cold, but I feel so warm and carefree,
It just doesn't feel cold to me.
Someone's knocking at the door.
Oh, it's one of the neighbors,
They're making us shower tonight before bed.
Mama's crying,
I don't know why, it's only a shower!
As we walk to the shower building
I hear one of the neighbors call me,
"You're such a dirty, dirty girl."
He kind of scared me,
But he was right I am very dirty.
We're here now, It's really cold in here.
This I can feel.
The cool concrete soothes my blistered soles.
They're making us all take our clothes off now.
That scary neighbor is watching me,
He keeps saying, "Dirty, dirty girl."
I know I am dirty stop telling me!
They just opened the doors,
I can't take this in,
I don't want to get it wet.
I hate showers! Oh well.
Until I return..Clean.
