Supreme elation fills my soul
when I wake up to you
softly breathing in your sleep
your hand locked into mine.
The sunshine kisses our cheeks
to promise a distant time
when this could happen every day.
It won't come too soon.

Train whistles and church bells awaken you
and as you stretch the sleep from your body
I am amazed at your unhindered peacefullness.
Your hair is more of a bird's nest than mine,
but with one eye half open you flash a smirk
and I can't help but sneak a kiss from your yawning cheek.
One more stretch and you wrap your arms tightly around me.
I bury myself into your shoulder and empty my mind of everything.

I close my eyes and thank God for moments like these.
I gently run my fingers through your hair and down your back.
Such a settle gesture of my affection, but you know its depth.
It took me so long to get this comfortable, but it's worth it now.
If only people could see these golden minutes
The prosecution and interrogation might be silenced forever.
Forgetting the turmoil, I sink beneath the thick blankets
and let the waves of peace and easy spring winds rock me to sleep again.
