The Curse of Casca Rufio Longinus

I fought and died in Viet-Nam, but I've died many times before.
I drowned while I was lost at sea, then my body renewed on shore.
I've been a slave deep in the mines, where they never will know your name.
I feared being buried alive, that fear could drive a man insane.

Yes I made friends along the way, and women yes I've known a few.
Yet I'll never be a father, I can't wait 'til this curse is through.
My strange curse was given by Christ, while dying way up on that hill.
The sky was dark, and rain fell free, and His words ring out to me still.

"Soldier, you are content with what you are.
Then that you shall remain until we meet again.
As I go now to my Father,
you must one day come to me."

This Jew they called the Messiah, was ordered to be put to death.
He was scourged yes badly beaten, and I tried to bring his last breath.
My spear I tried to run through Him, It felt like it just missed his heart.
The rain washed his blood in my mouth, my life was just then torn apart.

Pain and agony raced through me, as his blood changed my DNA.
My blood is now very toxic, this body will never decay.
The curse that Christ has given me, will not allow this man to die.
My body just repairs it's self, and I've wondered more then once why?

"Soldier, you are content with what you are.
Then that you shall remain until we meet again.
As I go now to my Father,
you must one day come to me."

So yes I've seen those two World Wars, and I know that I will see more.
I've been a Pirate, and a God, still waiting to see Horseman Four.
I've tried to live a peaceful life, I know it was just not to be.
As every time that things look good, yet again I am forced to flee.

I have made some enemies too, like The Brotherhood of the Lamb.
They wait, and watch for Jesus Christ, I guess that's their final exam.
There's nothing I can do but fight, you see that's what I'm cursed to do.
To live, love, laugh, die, and now hate, until the time I see the Jew.

"Soldier, you are content with what you are.
Then that you shall remain until we meet again.
As I go now to my Father,
you must one day come to me."

  • How sad.

It is very realistic and how sad that Barry Sadler is now dead because he wrote an heart renching song. This piece is an example of fine writing.
