Kaila's Song

Kaila is my niece's name,
it's been her name for years.
I've changed a few stinky diapers,
and I've brushed me away some tears.
I held her in my arms,
when she was just so small and frail.
Never once has she embarrassed us,
never once has she been thrown in jail...

An uncles love is differant,

but it's a strong love can't you see.

I'd sneak her some extra cookies,

if her mama wasn't there to see.

Or give her a bunch of piggy back rides,

or sing her a little song.

I love my little niecie K,

and I've loved her her whole life long...

I remember a tiny little girl,

whose smile could light a room up bright.

She'd say "Hey Unc I love you".

before she went to bed at night.

That tiny little girl in long gone now,

but she'll always be a part of me.

And so will this Beautiful..Smart..young WOMAN,

whose now standing here in front of me...

  • What a beautiful tribute to a child that has grown into a woman right before your eyes. I know how that happens, and it happens so swiftly that if we blink too many times, we miss some part of their growing process. I can feel how proud you are. I have many nieces but none who graduate this year. Two Thousand and ten is my year to attend those ceremonies.

    CONGRATULATIONS TO KAILA!

I have missed my namesake and brother. I pray all is well with you. Your rhyming poetry is always the BEST!

Very Tender and loving. As an Uncle too-many-times over, I can completely understand. Just saw a niece last couple of weeks [she lives in Alaska] that I haven't seen in 14 years, and she's grown into an incredible, talented young woman with her own mind.
is that a typo in line 1 of second stanza? ["in different" instead of "is different"]
The smiley face background is perfect here, as is the avuncular emotion.
