He never made a single promise
especially one he couldn't keep
his heart was overwhelmed with love
as he watched his baby sleep.
curled up in her father's arms
her tiny head cradled on his chest
he made a silent vow to protect her
and he'd give it all his best.
she was her daddy's little girl
and to him she could do no wrong
her rosey cheeks were all aglow
made her father's heart beat strong.
Though he was a humble man
who walked in faith and sight
he never once blamed God
when life for him weren't right.
he did not raise his fist in anger
or curse his God and die
he kept the pain locked deep inside
and never once did cry.
when his precious baby girl
was kindapped in her sleep
her broken body found years later
yet her father never weeped.
and though his eyes were sad and dry
inside the floodgates poured
no one woud believe a broken man like he
still kept his fellowship with God.
Author notes
The riddle goes like this, "what can cry and shed no tears?"
a broken man.

Marvelous!
A sad but exquisite tale of love.
The strength of mankind is sometimes
hard to understand.
It's difficult to imagine what some of
us have to endure and still remain sane.
We often hold on to emotions inside
when truthfully we're dying a little each day.
This was a powerful poem.
You alluded to the answer but that
wasn't quite right. Nice try

Awesome! Thank you darell. I really enjoyed writing for your contest. It was inspiring and pretty much motivated me to continue writing.
