Truths Within

There's a face behind a face behind a face;
Beauty in the cage in the open field
There's pain in false smiles, happiness lost in sorrow;
Yearning and despair must remain concealed.
River cried, tree died, grasshopper sighed
Turn the cheek, shoot the breeze
Look the other way as the world begins to sway
Crumble crumble-- down we fall
Ignorance is bliss.
Drug it up, be indifferent, numb the pain
You don't have to feel if you pretend it didn't happen
Lights off! The night awaits
Filled with your horrors, your pain, your guilt.
Look what you've done! Can you not see the damage?
Sniffle sniffle, the little girl cries
She looks up at you with those vulnerable eyes
Hold her tight, take it all away, no more! No more!
Look again, look within. You see yourself looking in.

Author notes

How does this do with teenagers? Many of them see the world for what it is often before they are ready.

    Indeed and Thank you! So brutal - harsh and real. Very true to teenage.
