my fingers
can be likened to those of any other,
equal only by their difference
uniquely made
with the wonder held
in how they all must reach
sometimes, even
lightly
for each other
sometimes, oddly
farther
than we think they should

Then there are those who are determined to stand out from the middle, pretending to fold the others.
Simply wonderful Kate.

I just love this. I really like the spare quality, especially for a poem-within-a-poem. The ending is just perfect.

I like it. I'm not even sure I can really nitpick it because it's direct, not too wishy-washy, and makes the point with as little verbiage as possible (which is always appreciated). Of course, the key here is "not too wishy-washy"... meaning Nam might not find it heart-ripping enough. But eh... I'm diggin it.

Kate . . . so much inner depth reflected in so few lines . . . I oftentimes wish that my own pen could be so disciplined and concise . . .

interesting poem - did u write this specifically for the contest or did something else inspire u?

No - it was contest inspired. I just set myself the hard target (the only way we can extend ourselves eh?) and went for an effort to write heart-rending in a minimalist form. Success or not?
- not mine to decide
