Surprise

This pain subsides around the corner.
A pain of heartache, loss, and sorrow.
A pain guaranteed to leave behind a river of tears,
In which I will reside.
Where nobody cares,
Nobody needs,
And no one can hurt me.
The bullets are slowed by the water,
And it drowns out all screams.
Where I’m never floating, but I’m not sinking.
I just remain afloat, a spare.
Waiting to be brought in by the current,
Over all the rapids and through every grain of sand,
To the stream’s end where one will save me.
Take away the endless nights and give unforgettable days.
Until that day, I creep through life,
Hesitantly turning every corner,
Where I’m not really living,
I’m just alive.
