And spent every cent of it today.
Exactas.
Trifectas.
Win, Show, Place
& not a single dollar won
On this goddamn horse race.
To live in Kentucky
& never get lucky
Author notes
Prompt: Gambling
I have an addictive personality; I have only been to the racetracks three or four times and the first time I went I left with $80 extra in my pocket, however the next times were not so lucky haha but horse racing is still a great thing to watch.

I have been a horse man for some years now. I have won more than I have lost, but still know the cost of a back of the pack runner coming up by a nose so I have nothing to show. Like this, but it is not my addiction. Though I promise you I understand. This was cute and a nibble behind the ear kind of reminder to laugh, move on but be aware.
Peace,
Tom B.

One year I was in Kentucky just before the Derby, and I was sorry I didn't get to see it live.... The lines "To live in Kentucky / & never get lucky" made me chuckle. I'm not a gambler myself (I lost $18 once playing slots in Atlantic City, and that was enough for me), but my husband loves the thrill of the games. I think you've captured the flavor with the racing terminology—well done!

hahaha i like this! bit sad obviously but i get a bit addicted to bingo when i go. even if i win a fiver, im hooked for the week hahaha great write on the prompt, and the authors notes add a personal touch to the wacky poem. : ) : ) : )
(im saving points, but i still want to give you some smiles x) -
lol........that was clever and wickedly fun!
witty too! sorry about your $80.00 (dang)
and Kentucky sure does breed some of the most
beautiful horses I have ever seen.
I stay away from the track too.....you know you
could feed that addictive personality by entering
poems and collecting trophies!

I've never seen a horserace, maybe one day I'll go. A very fine write. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Again, well done. -
Left gambling in '75
got really tired of having no money in my pockets.
Good, fast write poet!
