Ironic Rain Over Sunshine

I woke up one August morning
Drank some coffee and put myself togeather
Walked out to the street to grab the sunday paper
Looked out to the sky only to realize the amazing weather

I decided to dress light, sunny days are rare
An umbrella would be unnecesarry
On my long walk to work
It would be only another thing to carry

I made it to work in what seemed no time at all
The day just seemed to fly
I got all my work done so quickly
Before I knew it my co-workers were exchanging goodbyes

I gathered my things and run out the door
Lock up the shop and head on my way
The sun in the sky getting dim
I say to myself what a wonderful day

Walking my usual way home
Almost skipping with joy, I didnt even have any idea why
When I saw these beautiful flowers at a stand
I wasnt paying any attention and knocked over this guy

He picked himself up and dusted off
Held out his hand to help me too
I smiled and apologized for bumping into him
When I noticed his eyes so pretty and blue

He asked my name and so it began
We found a little coffee shop and sat down
I made alittle small talk & he commented my dress
I felt really comfortable and almost unwound

Next thing I knew it was getting awfully late
He was so perfect, seemed to be the highlife of this day in my life
But It was so ironic, when a women walked in
And he introduced me to his gorgous wife.

  • Nice poem, packed with good description. I like the ending but the title gives away the end and diminishes the impact.
