Shared Sorrow

I watch him as softly he cries,
The tears flowing gently downward.
Standing aloof, I feel absurd...
Yet a piece of me slowly dies.

He truly is an awesome guy
I watch him as softly he cries...
And wonder at how hard he tries.
Yet, love is naught but a cruel lie.

It hurts me to see him in pain.
To my heart my hand quickly flies;
I watch him as softly he cries
"Father, why have you gone again?"

There is deep pain within our eyes
For the scars that we both must bear.
Since his predicament I share,
I watch him as softly he cries.

Author notes

Originally I started this intending it for a friend of mine that, although he does not outwardly cry, internally he softly cries. After a while, I realized that this went deeper and further than I intended.

    I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!
