Trapped

I am chained by a loneliness I dare not tempt
Held captive by the pain of the forsaken.
An abuse long suffered but finally ended
Left me broken, desolate and heavily shaken.

I can no longer fear the evil of the human heart
Nor run from the darkness of a wicked soul.
The depths and depravity of both I witnessed
At the hands of a mind unsound, unwhole.

There is no escape from a truth so graphic
Once it has been forced brutally upon you.
Embrace and become what you loathe?
Not while to myself my heart is still true.

I willl stand and fight the monster's influence
This dreadful curse he tried to place upon me.
A cry to my fellow victims, "Stand and fight!"
In your misery, we shall never be your company.

Thus we are emotionally trapped in this battle
To defeat the abusers' power and hate.
Our hearts may be fragile and bruised
But the capability to love does not abate.

You cannot break us while love still lives
And lover's hearts do gladly and daily lend us aid.
You will lose this fight in a dreadful way.
Alone you will live and die, in a bed self made.

We move on to greater and happier things.
We sleep peacefully in an affectionate marriage bed.
We feel a lover's gentle caress and kind words.
Life goes on without a care as you join the dead.

Thank you so much for the comment and the applause! This was deifinitely a bit of a stretch for me compared to my typical word choice and arrangement. I wasn't sure how it would turn out. I really appreciate knowing that you enjoyed it!
