a wish for me to see
the grand mountains stretching to the sky,
and the beauty of the sea.
I wish to know of Eastern lands
that prosper far, far away,
away from my home in Western-land,
where life is so dull and grey.
I dream of a forest singing,
with leaves of shining gold*;
of places sung in songs of legend,
written in the days of old.
I long for the sight of the Havens**,
of the Great forest of Green***,
and my heart aches for the sight
of something it's never seen.
I do not know where the road will lead me,
for it goes ever on and on,
yet I bid it to lead me wherever it may,
ere my days are gone!
Author notes
Uhm, this is inspired by a lot, mostly Tolkien, and "Wanderlust" by Nightwish, which was also inspired by Tolkien. I know this poem's not very good - it was stuck in my head, you see, and I had to write it down. The astrisked (*) phrases indicate that I used something DIRECTLY from Tolkien.
It's not as good as Bilbo's rhyming, but I think it will do. =)
* - "The forest singing with leaves of shining gold" refers to Lothlorien.
** - "The Havens" are clearly the Grey Havens.
*** - "The Great forest of Green" refers to Greenwood the Great, also called Mirkwood.

Haha. It's good. It makes me want to sing that song that Gandolf sang... that was like:
The road goes ever on and on,
down to the door where it began,
now far ahead the road has gone,
and I must follow if I can.
Yeah, not that great of a poem. I probably misquoted it anyway.
Good job though (:
