if Loves could kill

if loves could kill
perhaps
you COULD look me
[in the eyes];
fall hard.
[and then get up]
just in time to watch me die.
softly
like a kiss.
the casual kind.
the kind you don't miss
until you're pulsing in time
with a Catholic  somewhere
while i'm watching from the edge of a grave;
trudging toward St. Peter's Gate;
regretting my sins or recalling your taste.
thinking
[not at all hypocritically]:
it could have been me
"God, i wish it was me."
a martyr for the faith:
saving your life by savoring fantasy
that can kill with a stare.

however you'd look at her
SHE couldn't kill you.

What did you think

    • Thank you!! I'm so glad you liked it! There is a lot of hidden meaning in this one, and I'm especially happy that you found it profound and creative because I haven't been able to write anything since for some reason.
