A Cliche Feeling

You know, you’re giving me away
Tying me up in a big bow even though
Christmas was yesterday
Plastic rings and daisies were all around those fingers
Late night antics were made for light-hearted dreamers

Something inside is telling me not to grieve
Hearts sprout wings but they never do leave
When you’ve had enough, it’s enough for me
More is beautiful but you, you made me see

Times change, the color stays the same
Clouds could be white but with you, they
will never be grey
Wilting thorns and gardens were all around that heart
Ascending paths could never be traced to the start

Something is telling me to breakdown and cry
But reassurance is the best kind of lie
Even when the day stops laughing and dies
you’re still the one going through, through this mind

And even though I gave you away
I never tied off the bow and even gave a vague
‘to be open’ day
Pockets are filled with the ghosts of who once resided
inside the hands along with smiles now delighted
I might not be the reason for that crooked grin
but you’re the very reason this world still spins

What did you think
