Let me take a moment now
To gather all my thoughts
To bring forth all the memories
That I'd given up for lost
This part of life is almost done
And its end is bittersweet
But I must travel down this road
That lays before my feet
But before I even take a step
And make this change too fast
I'd like to turn myself around
to look at what I've passed
It's strange to look behind me
When so much still lies ahead
My legs plead to go forward
But my feet are cold with dread
For further down this road of life
Lay challenges unknown
And what I have to leave behind
Is a warm familiar home
So many things I've left unsaid
That I hoped that they'd just know
All the tears I held inside
And the smiles I didn't show
There's a million things I had to say
That never made it past my lips
And a thousand lives I never touched
Though I had them at my fingertips
So many hugs I didn't give
That could've brightened someones day
A silly grin or a stupid joke
And all the times I should've stayed
There were a hundred thousand moments
That led me to this place
Though so much of it seemed left to chance
There's almost nothing I'd replace
There will always be a part of me
Filled with the faint regret
Of a thousand little heartaches
From 'I love you"s never said
But way back when seems long ago
Time's passed and I've grown older
So I stare on down this dusty road
As I reflect upon it's shoulder
Sadly though, all things must end
And time always must progress
Despite the sentimental
And how the dreamers do protest
And I thank you for this moment
But now it's time for me to go
I'll take just one more backward glance
Then start my journey down this road.

Awesome!
This is a damn good write! I love it! It kinda reminds me of how I felt when I joined the NAVY. You did an outstanding job penning this piece, it speaks volumes. The flow here is incredible! Keep it up!
