I was frozen
so I departed
Because even while I had love
Nora was always my mistress.
I sailed across the sea
without looking at a compass
And I made landfall in Egypt.
I traveled from Cairo to Kathmandu
on horse and dromedary back
in search of someone all the while
knowing she was but a stone's throw
from where I set sail in California.
I set sail:
"To add more miles to the tally
Of grey miles left behind,
In quest of that one beauty
God put me here to find. "
Sometimes I look to the sky
and wonder if the writer of those lines
ever found his happiness
as I had found mine.
But my beauty left me frozen and unaware.
She left quicker than she came
and my epic quickening earned me no fame--
Not that I w anted any.
And so I search
all the Earth
for that one beauty
that I know still lives in California
And I pray I never find it.

good poem here. Leaves us wondering about the conflicting emotions of the speaker. It's been so long--where ya been?
