Dawn of Dreams

Time ticks, eyelids grow heavy and
My mind wanders away
aimlessly into a land where
it can breath deeply
and awaken from
it's daylight sleep.

Safe and warm as
the moonlit hour approaches,
surrounded in soft sheets and
huffy puffy
billowing pillows.
My eyes cloud over
and then at
that moment,
That moment,
where dreams cross the
threshold into reality
and allows my mind to blossom
into life.

Since a child has that
one moment escaped me.
I used to try and stay awake,
to see when I fell asleep.
But it creeps up on you,
slowly and silently,
drowning in your own yawns,
it can't be stopped
like time itself.
But then what is time anyway?
When in a place where
logic, rules and reasoning
so common place in the fabric of the universe,
escape and abandon us
for our sub-conscience to
fill in the gaps.
For you see,
even the Universe needs to sleep.

But only in the dreams
there exists
magic, love, adventure and life.

Take me to a secret walled garden
over grown and tangled
in the flora and fauna so
weaved in mystery and magic,
ivy ridden walls, trickling waterfalls
and stone creatures watch
as I find my one true.

Beautiful, thoughtful and
a dazzling brilliance and grace
that leaves my breath back
tangled among the ivy.
A vision perhaps only
mirrored in the scene of
a secluded wooded lake,
a fine white mist hanging over the crystal waters,
an eternal home to a couple of swans forever bonded
by an unseen, unbreakable force.
Together forever.

Or maybe a windswept valley
where evil lurks in the thorned shadows and me,
a lone adventurer
with sword unsheathed and shield on arm,
perched upon the brow of the mountain ridge
atop my silver steed
ready to descend into
the awaiting hoards below.

In this world of mine,
created entirely
from inside my head,
I dread the sunlight
and the time when I must leave,
to restart my dull, excuse of an existence,
again, for yet another day.

But my dreams come alive,
when the light turns off
and the darkness comes on.
When I fall asleep,
My mind wakes up to
The new dawn before the old night after.

Oooooooohh. Aaaaaaaaaaaahhh. Lovely dreamy land. But why would a garden but tangled in margarine? I leave you with the words a Ralph. "Yay. Sleep. That's where I'm a viking."

Chuffing brilliant!!! I love this, its the sort of thing you could have only written when half asleep, I mean that in a good way !! The way that you describe dreams as actually being like waking from 'daylight sleep' when you can be truely alive, is perfect. And trying to stay awake to know what its like to fall asleep!

If I had any applause left they would surely be yours, but sadly I am just too generous and gave them all away

    Pillow cake

Wow, brill poem. It's all soft and blowy. Ok, maybe it is a bit cliched but it works for it. I like "for you see even the Universe needs to sleep". Very nice. Dreamy sweet like candyfloss only not nearly so sticky.
