William

William had a special watch
William thought
He had it all
And the older he grew
The watch would too
Bearing his name
the watch and it's frame
would stop on Williams dying day
He knew this for certain
the watch was his burden
and he tried and he tried he tried with all his might
but the watch would never, never subside
He felt such a mess
he felt more obsessed
and the time would start to quicken
the rapid of it's ticking
He would get his sooner the day
And then the watch would say

William
William
until you give it a chance
you'll never get life back
Live for the moment
don't take life for granted
William
William

The words the watch had said
left a burn inside of his head
and as he grew older
the watch started to crack
William never took it off
Life living inside of a bubble bath
He never had a career
He never had a family
He always despised those who truly were happy
Taking the lesser road of anti-recovery
William always knew his day would come
The insanity grew from the sound of a gun
William knew what he had to do
3 cracks on the face of the watch
every moment he listened for it's stop
Then came for another day
the watch told him what it needed to say

William
William
until you give it a chance
you'll never get life back
Live for the moment
don't take life for granted
William
William

William now is eighty three
no job, no experience, no family
Never had a health plan
or even a check up
never climbed a mountain
his whole life he gave up
The sound of the ticking grew quieter
his days remained withered
His heart started pounding
his blood pressure rose
A whole portion of William's life cropped
the hour the minute his heart had stopped
The last thing William heard before his time
was the words of the watch with a tiny cry

William
William
You never gave it a chance
you'll never get life back
Never lived for the moment
you took life for granted
William

Why I am enthralled by this piece is the name William. William is the gent in my book/play, a schizophrenic. A lot of what is going on in here is quite brilliant, as there are pieces in this which would not look out of place in, 'Eos'. Excluding the 83 year old, it's remniscent to watching them, watching us, watching you. The watch is almost metaphor of one's life here I feel. The watch stopping is compared to death, and by this denote, a lot of ideas from, "He never had a career
He never had a family". Here it is a moment of one's life time that we fall back on, and what was either achieved or under achieved. In, 'Eos', William dies also, and this comparison with yours is, that instead of a tiny timepiece to remind us that he existed at all, 'William', leaves a time chart mapping pasts, present and futures. This is an endearing piece of imformation that most probably, only I can envisage using further. Well down, It must have meant a lot to you, to write a piece like this. Take care. Titus / Tony
