Step one: In authors notes below.
They say "watch that step it's a doozy"
and indeed it is, it means everything you knew before,
everything you believed, is false.
Might have known or suspected you had a problem,
but admit it?? Really truthfully? to ourselves?
deep down in that hidden recess buried inside? fuck no...
You have grown strong in the dark side, abandoning the light years ago.
So, finally, we find ourselves in a pit of despair, deep, dark and ugly,
gutter slime pooled, stagnant, all above us spitting as they go by.
Suddenly, something happens, something terrible perhaps,
a spark ignites an idea, a seed planted long ago becomes fertile.
An epiphany of a kind, a realization of self that has been long buried,
and you cry out in earnest for help of some kind.
(you can't do this anymore!!)
Only then can you truly be saved.
The truth hurts, you need help, you can't do it on your own.
That truth, that tiny truth, is the key to your sobriety,
and you don't have to do it alone...
Acceptance
accept it, believe it, live it, you could stay sober that way.
Author notes
Alcoholics Anonymous, pg.59:
We admitted we were powerless over Alcohol--
that our lives had become unmanageable.

Really, give me your opinion!

Why are there no comments on this piece
it is a fantastic piece from within that is simplistic but gripping in the reality of what the first step is;
very good write

This wasn't a contest piece, I was going to do a series on the steps like I did the serenity prayer series, I don't think i ever got to step two though. I think i have to do that soon.
