this phase of me

Curled on the front porch step,
knees hugged by arms that tired from
pulling weeds
and painting walls that didn’t need it,
I sit...

barefoot with jeans rolled to ankles,
ready to dip my toes in hot tub water
as the sun makes its bed for the night.

Yet I remain on that step,

thinking…
sharing time with space
and not much else~
just me and the moon now

never to leave,
never to judge~
another phase to who I am,
and am becoming.

Revealed in pieces,
these reflections of me
pulling to be more,
like tides turn night into day
and half becomes whole.

I’m ready to be
warmth for those who shiver in a cold world…
and light for those whose eyes can’t adjust to the dark.

My reflection of hope will shimmer
on faces I don’t know
and the glow of acceptance will be felt
by any who turn my way

I am ready to shine…
and, yes,

shine I will.

I breathe in the night air,
grab a hoodie
and bend over to pull a few weeds I missed.

Then dipping my toes in the hot water,
I smile…

for tonight, I sit under the moon
but tomorrow, I become the sun.

…. and I am ready.

I'm so happy that I took a little jaunt into the archives. What a wonderful poem. I love how you come back to address the scene of the tub at your feet, under the moon...just rich in it's way to accentuate the stillness of thought...and what tremendous mature thoughts you cultivated here. Very inspiring.

This is one of the best poems I have ever read. You do shine. In every word and every line. The things that you do. I thought people stopped doing them. This is the absolute truth. Because of you, I have had to re-evaluate my own perspective and you have restored my faith in humanity just a little bit. Thank you for writing. lol. Funny, that's all I can really say. Thank you for writing it all down.

This is so good, kind of dark, great word expression,,I enjoyed it. Nice flow to it. It held my attention, which is important in poetre. One has to quickly grab the nreaders attention quickly, and reel them in. This is what you have done, and done nicely. Good for you. I resd it 2 times to get more out of it, and I did. Very impressive. Great message as well. Keep up the great work. See ya,

    John

  • I think by far this is the most confident piece of poetry I have read by you dear. And what is ironic is that it is exactly how I have seen you all along. You do shine very brightly, well above others. You bring the sunshine into the darkness with your poetry and your charisma. You have a gift that was meant to be shared, not only with your talent, but just with whom you are. The world needs more like you, you just radiate of sweetness and in a world that has gone sour... well we need more sweeteners!

Outstanding write my dear friend, you really have outdone yourself here. Opening your pages is like Christmas day... there is always a brand new wonderful surprise awaiting each and everytime and I am NEVER disappointed!

Congrats on the gold, it is well deserved!

    • you MAKE MY DAYS!!! really! thank you SO much.
i feel the same about you.. you always bring sunshine into my day when i see those clouds rolling in.

You are the first test of my internet communications from the downtown apartment and what a fine thing to have before me. I saw this last night but only had time for a quick run through. Even then I knew this one was special. I see many others did as well and I also see the shimmer of gold in the moonlight this poem is bathed in. it is a rich, beautiful and inspiring piece of work.

By far the best and most genuine thing I've read by you, in my opinion. Brimming with confidence and sensuality.
    This is REALLY good.
