When my life from earth is gone,
promise me that you will carry on.
Don't look back at the ifs, buts and whys,
and when you think of me smile, don't cry.
Remember how i gave it my all,
to everyone even including y'all.
that although I had a little of nothing,
I gave you all a little something.
Know that I kept my children fed and
somehow kept a roof over their heads.
I managed to keep my family together,
no matter how bad or stormy the weather.
Take pride in knowing, you knew this poet,
for god gave me the talent, i just know it.
My writing and poems I know inspired many,
no one read them without being touched, not any.
The strength people sensed in me,
was just being strong when i had to be.
There were many trials and tragedies,
I went through that seemed to strengthen me.
What kept me going when things were tough,
was helping others who needed me enough.
They called me an earth angel you see,
but I was only doing what made me, be me.
Remember my grandchildren breathed new life in me,
at a time when things were so cloudy, I couldn't see.
They gave me a reason to keep carrying on,
at a time when my will wasn't very strong.
Know that I truly loved with all of my heart,
whether you were family, friends or strangers from the start.
That you all meant the world to me,
that for each of you i would have swam the biggest sea.
I leave behind my poetry,
when you read it remember me.
And if you start feeling depressed and all alone,
remember Ellan has asked you to please carry on.

What a legacy to leave behind when you are gone. This was so sad, and I'm sure you WILL be remembered well. Thank you, Ellen, for sharing with us now, and I hope it is a long time before it is read at your funeral.
Blessings and a gentle caress,
Ron

Beautiful look at a life well lived, as long as we remain in the memories of those we love, we are never truly gone.
Peace

That is a very touching piece of poetry Ellan. I hope you get your wish when the time comes and that someone will read it out for you - but I do hope you are not planning on going anywhere yet a while.
