a fire...

In a desert high sun
her skin was darker
the shade of trees
made eyes into shadows.

Lips pulled into a smile
i imagined was mine, dark hair
seemed to shine like an afternoon moon
catching the glow of sands and walls
making each into its own, and my eyes
found the fascination;

but it was her skin
that pulled something from memory.
The warmth of a mother's embrace,
snug corner place when outside winds race;
sights that seem to taunt us
when we are hungry,

a fire in the senses.
Delightful aromas that drift from unknown
places in the night, to become part of a dream
the sense of something wonderful on the tongue
from a sight so alluring; as when the eye remembers
an ember-ed coal bursting to flame

beneath a slight breath.

    It's very poetic imagery:
    "dark hair
    seemed to shine like an afternoon moon
    catching the glow of sands and walls"
    I liked the romantic mood here. Reader gets special feelings from this piece.
    I liked metaphors as well.

  • Well, I have to start at the end because it was so amazing!!!! I mean wow, what a wonderful image... something so powerful coming from something so gentle...a perfect reflection of the potent visage from the rest of the poem. What amazes me here most, is the idea of this journey he goes on in his mind, complete with memories and sensory appeal... and all from someone he has partaken of only at a distance, someone he had "imagined" had smiled for him. Someone, who, in the heat of desert sun, might have even been a mirage...to bring the comforts he needed. Just a thought. The descriptions of her are compelling and the infusion of the world around her into his whole experience makes this so absolutely grand and effective. A beautiful write... and again... a conclusion that says it all. Wonderful! Totally loved this.
