Hold Me Close; I Didn't Mean It <3

i.
You take her hand and show her true happiness in the smallest of glances; completely oblivious to the fact that you stole her heart.

She smiles at the memory.

ii.
Photo albums full of captured smiles and laughter; every worthwhile moment remembered with a flash. She runs her fingers lightly over your photo-framed face and recalls how boyish it used to be.

She can't help but think how much more impossibly handsome you've become.

iii.
You walk in late one evening and find her curled up asleep on the couch. You lay a blanket on her shivering body, and she awakens with a dazed smile on her face.

"I was just dreaming of you.."

iv.
Two years down the road she's crying and you can't seem to understand why. "you never listen to me" You are taken aback, and stutter out what could never be called a response. Her face looks terrified and not knowing what else to do you reach out your hands and hold her.

Her body convulses in your arms; not a word is said.

v.
Only spoken when spoken to; her responses are slow and emotionless. You would do anything to see her smile again, but you can never seem to figure out what she wants.

Her silence is beginning to make you sick.

vi.
Eyes closed, you lead her into a 5 star restaurant; hands intwined as if her love was still there. You pull out her chair and sit her down; "you can look now"

Her dead eyes open and stare at you blankly. The hope you once had is slowly flickering; but you're dedicated and will not give in.

A waiter rounds the corner and she orders a glass of champaigne. You nodd in agreement; not taking your eyes off her for a second. She notices this romantic gesture but pretends she doesn't care.

You didn't miss the smallest flush of red in her cheeks.

vii.
Half way through your steak and her salad you put down your fork and look at her intently. She pretends she didn't notice.

You gently place your hand ontop of hers; her body stiffens. "your favourite colour is purple with a light mixture of blue." She raises her head and her eyes connect with yours; looking as though they are trying to understand the image before them.

"You pretend to like baseball, but have always hated it. When you were four you swallowed a Monopoly piece and had to be rushed to the hospital to get it removed from your windpipe."

Her eyes begin to water and you raise your left hand to lightly brush them away.

"You mouth the words when you are reading a book, and when you come across a part you disagree with, your eyebrows crinkle in the cutest of ways. When we drive, you stare out the window in the deepest of dazes. You once told me when you do this, you are thinking of home."

You pause, and lean in to lightly kiss her forehead. And for the first time in a long time, she does not pull away.

You look deep into her eyes, and begin to speak again. "I love you. And I have always listened to you. You are the most beautiful woman I have seen in my life, and I want it to stay that way." She looks confused, but her eyes suddenly fill with clarity. "Will you marry me?"

viii.
"Yes."
