Hope For a New Start

I never thought this could happen
My heart’s been really tappin’
Inside my chest
Hoping for the best
It’s been lying dormant
Causing much emotional torment
It’s been locked away tight
From much pain and sight
It’s seen too much
For it to openly lush
Ever since I’ve met you though
You’ve seemed to really strike it so
You’ve found that unique pick
Opening it up to tick
Its scars are being tended
I just hope they can be mended
It may take some time
For it to harmoniously chime
I think it will come through
For it’s still fairly new
I can’t speak for my pride
It will take more for it to stride
My heart can forget
But my memories can’t handle it
The intelligent side of me
Won’t let my heart flee
It keeps it restrained
Locked up from past pain
I don’t think I can take
Another heartbreak
My heart might handle another repair
But my mind can’t handle the despair
I hope you can handle my tortured soul
If you start lurking around this hole
It’s not a bottomless pit
It will just take some time to find it
I have given you my word of caution
I just hope you send that sign to combustion
My heart is crying to get free
My pride just needs to leave
I just need time to forget the past
And start a connection that will last
