The Storyteller

There was silver in his smiles
As he told us how it happened.
"I wasn't too awful old
(Long time ago! I know)
And all judgment shortly gone
Since who accompanied me
Wad dear ole' Lyle.
Together we'd hiked
To the top of the cliff,
Only to dive back down again.
Now you've heart of the Kricken,
No doubt for me the legend be true,
For down in teh bottom of the geiser
His cousin did his bones chew.
Now don't give me that look,
Don't judge me just yet.
Let me finish my story
Then of it make what you will.
So back to my story,
Now don't you interrupt.
You might wonder,
ANd rightfully so,
How I happen to know
The dwlling and stay of
This ghastly beast.
Now it's because I dove,
Dove down to the deep,
And down at the bottom
The best did there sleep.
So scared I was,
I nearly let go my breath,
But I determined to remain in calm
Fearing the instant of my de3ath.
Tried to swim away as I might,
I wasn't fast enough.
Down came my friend,
In a giant and loud whirl,
Waking the lethal cousin.
Lyle was lucky,
He got away quick,
But the same fate wasn't for me.
Before the Lord gave me
Any time to react
Here in my face
His tail greatly whacked.
Back to shore I swam in a frenzy.
I made it to the surface,
I swear to this day
I haven't a clue how,
And ran with Lyle home.
Needless to say, to that water hole
Never again did we roam".
Could it be true?
I thought instantly it could not,
But some detail were so true,
But when inquirely I look to him,
He simply and mischievously grinned,
And there was silver in his smile.

    A Fishin' Story

I think I dated Lyle...a lifetime ago...he's still trying to get me to go down to the fishin' hole...wonderful play on words (there was silver in his smile) I applaud you with a smile.
