Who is this god of yours, so small,
that he can't abide change?
Who is this god of yours, so small,
that he is more concerned by semantics
than war?
Who is this god of yours, so small,
that he applauds
when you picket a funeral?
Who is this god of yours, so small
that he tells you
you are always right?
Who is this god of yours, so small,
that he sides with those
who have hatred in their hearts?
Who is this god of yours, so small
that the thing he hates most
is when some people fall in love?
How did such an almighty God
become so small, in your eyes,
How did you make such an almighty god
so small, that he he can't be heard
for your shouting?

Reminded me of two other poems I've read: one is called "The White Tiger", though I don't know who wrote it, and the other is a song by the Newsboys, and goes:
"How you gonna reckon with a God this great?
Why you wanna measure what you can't equate?
What you gonna say to the checkmate
that is my God?
I'm not following a god I can lead around
I can't tame this Deity..."
Trouble is, all people are judgmental. Some judge people who deviate from the normal, others judge those who do not, or those who judge. Isn't it ironic?
And what happens is that everyone puts everyone else into little boxes with labels on, and forgets that life is a many-faceted diamond. We need freedom with guidelines, acceptance with righteousness...
We are not perfect.

not that you need another comment but all i can think to say is WOW! such profound thoughts and words that describe exactly the way God is viewed by alot of people. Excellent job! ~T~

This is the most insightful religious (or non religious) poem I have ever read.I have always been trying to express my views on this matter but this strikes the matter in the heart. people are concerning themselves with tiny stupid matters for which they claim they fight in "God's name" Oh I'm so sure God concerns himself with hating homesexuals. Focusing on hate is not holy and if God supports this "cause" he is truly small. This was incredible.

well im sure what the message was... i dont have a beliefe but i liked this piece.
if you could explain it when you get a chance i would appreciate it a great deal. -
this is a very good expression of how american society has put God on the back burner and turned him into an insagnificant part of our culture. at first it seems as though you are blaming Him, and i almost stopped reading, however, i'm glad i read all the way through. i think it could be very easy for someone to mis read the message that you are trying to send with this piece. great write overall.

i htink this is a very deep poem, and one that i think would take a lot of courage to write. i mean, you could get death threats or something for writting about something as contreversal as that, but then again, you could get death threats for writting about most anything.

i agree killing in the name of your faith, allows your god to become hollow, or in any case, killing in the name of a beleife, makes that belief become hollow, or any foul deed, religion is about faith and acceptance, if othersdont believe, they are allowed not to, but dont shun them because they dont, faith is an amazing thing, ti will get you through just about anything, but faith can be faith in anything, for me personally, i have no faith in god, i have faith in myself, but i understand there are those who need faith in something else, which is fantastic, atleast you believe in something

Everyone, no matter the religion, makes God (to a greater or lesser extent) conform to their own sinfulness. The God in the Christian Bible is not like you described in your poem although many who profess the Christian faith are guilty as charged, including myself on some days. May I, by God's grace believe in the one true God and not one I've made up in my mind.

A very meaningful and timely poem, very well said.
God isn't small.. it's the diminishing that happens within us that makes him appear so.... all we do, all we think, all we feel.
This is a very good write, deep in meaning.

Fantastic. I'm a little unsure of what you're trying to say here (I mean it could be one of several things) but I think it was very well-written. Beautiful write,
in Christ and God bless,

this is a sad poem. it is also very truthful. i like how it flows and i like how you keep asking the question over and over

I love the message of this poem. I think that some people have lost touch with the real meaning of the core of their beliefs.. your poeme xpresses that sentiment nicely.
