Tearing feathers from broken wings
my heart no longer soars and sings.
I thought you'd love me more than you do
yet I'm lying here with the stinging words "We're through."
Fighting to reach the surface,
drowned in salty tears resurfaced
after heartache brought on by careless yearning
for a heart that still is turning.
Turning your back on what could have been
I'll pick up the piece and swallow hurt once again.
