When the sky darkens, my thoughts are light;
you come to haunt me every night.
Not in dreams, for I am awake,
and only so long til my heart aches.
The sweet sound of your voice guides me,
and I feel as if you are beside me.
The memories burn and singe in my mind,
and no release from this hell can I find.
Yet the sweetest heaven when I see your face,
a contradiction that I never want to replace;
my tears are dried up as a smile grows,
and the happiness felt then nobody knows;
in your absence, my heart aches for a reason,
I am without a time, a sense, or a season.
These thoughts won't subside even after the dawn,
and all I know to do is carry on.
Maybe someday we can start over again,
and things will work out but until then,
I have you in my thoughts keeping me up at night;
sleepless devotion to my only light.
