Nights Filled With Fog

Nights are darkest without light
On back roads filled with deep despair
Fog bound fields creep about
Lit by the headlights through a gauze bandage
Empty towns pass by without a sound
No all night petrol stops anywhere
We must have missed the interchange
And ended up in the middle of nowhere

These nights filled with fog
Where all the edges are blurred
With our ragged thoughts the road goes on
Beneath the rumbling of worn tyres
No motel signs to light the way
In this purgatory life we lead
Beneath a slipshod moon

And I can't remember all the while
On why we ended up so lost
In nights filled with fog
We've gone and lost our way
No tail lights even up ahead
We're stranded in this no man's land
Between the midnight and the dawn
Stranded in these callous dreams
And nights filled with fog and regrets
