like that of nails scraping chalkboard.
My eyes still flicker crimson,
with the images of blood staining everything in sight.
My heart still races at the sound of loud noises
in fear that they are a bullet leaving its chamber.
Goosebumps form upon my pale flesh, the hair stands upon every inch of my body
while I'm lying in my bed, knowing when I fall asleep I'll relive that nightmare.
{I'm walking through the halls, in complete silence
except for the loud bang of a gunshot, here and there.
My body is shaking, over filling with such fear
that it is causing tears to flow down my cheek.
My class and I are walking slowly, determined to make it out alive
and thats when I look into the lunchroom and see a fellow student shot.
I didn't know him but I lose my breath at the sight of his life taken right out of him
Blood explodes out of his chest like that of a waterfall.
Then the shoter aims right at me and pulls the trigger
I then wake up.}
Although that day is in the past,
it is still apart of my present and will be apart of my future.
You can never erase such an event from your mind
it will forever leave you traumatized.
It will forever make you wonder, why this event had to happen,
why others were killed and you got to live.
What sent this student so far over the edge,
he was willing to destroy the lives around him.
I never knew the school I attended every week day
could be turned into a battlefield, one against a thousand.
Even more I never realized how much damage one of my peers could do
to the innocent people I saw around me each day.
What screw went loose in his head, what voice ringing in his ear,
what demon in his body, could make him think the massacure he created was okay?
Had this boy been living in the shadows for so long,
he would do anything for a glimpse of the light?
Was this boy so desperate for attention
he was willing to have the blood of humans on his grotesque hands?
I will never forgive him for the lives he turned into deaths.
I will never forgive him for the futures that got left in the past.
I will never forget their wise words, even at their young age.
I will never forget the days they were put in the ground to forever rest in peace.
Author notes
This poem is written for a contest in memory of the students killed in school shootings. I really don't understand how someone could end a persons life let alone tons of innocent people. I worked really hard on this poem so I hope everyone likes it, and I wish the best of luck to those who have ever lost a loved one due to a school shooting.
The prompt I used was: the perspective from a school shooting survivor.

This is very good. It's hard to be a survivor of such a tragedy. You've written it very well and have totally done a great tribute. You should be proud of yoruself for this. Great work. Thanks for sharing. Best of luck to you in your contest. Kahy

Wow. So much feeling and emotion in this piece. I imagine this is truly how many of the survivors feel.
Nicely done.
