Upon the battlefield the soldier lay
He was slowly dying, slipping away
His mate tried to reach out hold his hand
but could not touch him for the bullets
they talked the last words of friendship
somehow the pain eased and he smiled
"Goodbye my friend" he said
the battle suddenly faded away
His mate shook his confused head
for a beautiful glow surrounded them
then he saw what made the light
His friend ascending upwards
In the gentle arms of a winged Angel

This was an awe inspired piece. You have taken the prompt to a level that I was not expecting. Those final moments in a soldiers life. Thank you for your entry and your vision. May your ink never cease to flow.

Superb
A very fine inspirational piece. You always express your thoughts quite well. Thanks for sharing this one with us. -
This poem takes the reader through several moments of astonished anticipation for the worst. It also does a brilliant job at expressing the plagued confused conscience of the killer. It talks of the bitter truths and unfortunate deeds and risks that a soldier must take on the battlefield.
As usual, a phenomenal write.
