My Mother's Side

Brown eyed
dark haired
lion hearted women
deep soul
broken hearted vixens
always willing
to lend a hand
sarcasm is our
brand
as we fight and
cuss and fuss
but we always stand
united against those
outside who
do not understand
and weren't there to see
all the pain
we have dealt with
we take care of our own
we raise our own
we bury our own
and we will cut with our words
and our looks
anyone who says we are weak
on our own
raised to be independent
of everyone but each other
we are never alone
though often lonely
in our strength
intelligent
witty
sarcastic
and full of pride
strong and interesting
with beauty we can't hide
we out run hurricanes
and surf on life's high tide
brown eyed
dark haired
lion hearted women
deep soul
broken hearted vixens

This is wonderful. You sound like you all have a very tight bond. It's awesome to know that someone always has your back. Great job on this, good luck in the contest with it.

    take care

great poem twistedpisces!!!! great way to speak about the women of your family. i, myself, admired (and still do) my late grandmother, who was exactly like the women you describe here, in this piece. everytime my mother, other relatives, or even people from the outside who knew my grandmother, tell me that i am just like her (physically and emotionally), i'm filled up with pride. again, great poem. and good luck in the contest.
    peace, Enid.

very powerful, the emotion was just pouring from this piece. i really liked the end:

    we out run hurricanes
and surf on life's high tide
    brown eyed
    dark haired
    lion hearted women
    deep soul
    broken hearted vixens

    very cool lines. great work.

    excellent

This is my favorite of all your poems. It reminds me of my mother and sisters and me. You have evoked such a picture of women who draw strength from their losses shared and are bound to one another inextricably. This is wonderfully done on all counts, and speaks to me like a long-lost friend...who, when you've found them again, is immediately rebonded to you at soul-level. Thank you so much for this absolutely exquisite poem...and best of luck to you in this contest.

This is great. I like how the lines are so short, but powerful. Great job and thanks for entering my contest. Just don't forget to put 'birds of a feather' in your author's comments. Again, great job.
